School of the Spirit, Portsmouth

Acts 10:38 (TNIV)
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
What’s it all about?
The School of the Spirit was conceived in response to a growing desire in many to be able to live naturally-supernatural lives and to carry the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in our day to day activities. To continue the ministry of Jesus...’doing good and healing all…’
Inspired by the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, and more locally, our friends at North Kent Community Church’s own School, we are thrilled to be launching a similar school in Portsmouth in 2012.
Jesus didn’t only tell us to teach about His life on earth. He gave us a mandate (the ‘Great Commission’) - to do everything He did. But Jesus didn't just teach, preach and pray. Everywhere he went he healed the sick, performed miracles and even raised the dead. Did Jesus really mean us to do the same? Well, yes he did – he said so: “heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, drive out demons”.
It is our conviction that this is what Jesus wants and expects His followers to do and this is what we believe is possible – living a naturally-supernatural lifestyle.
When and where will the School take place?
Classes will be held fortnightly, on a Wednesday evening, throughout the year, in line with the academic calendar.
Format for classes:
Starting with coffee at 7:30pm, the evening will include a time of fellowship, worship, testimonies, teaching and ministry. This is not another Sunday service, but rather a workshop environment. A safe place for you to practice what you’ve been learning. Every week there will be opportunities for you to share and be inspired by stories of the adventures God takes us on in our daily lives.
Why fortnightly?
Many of us have had lots of teaching but little practical experience in the things of the Spirit. These gatherings will take the form of workshops, where the regular experience of interacting with each other will help us grow in confidence. This is not just another teaching opportunity, so it is important to be able to meet regularly, without it negatively impacting on our other local church commitments. The regular momentum of teaching, safe opportunities to take risks and the encouragement of others’ testimonies over the year, will renew your mind and change your behaviour to the place where the supernatural will be naturally part of your daily life.
Oasis Church have partnered with us and are kindly hosting us in their lovely facilities in Upper Arundel Street, Portsmouth.
Some of the topics we will be looking at are:
- Encountering the Presence of God - As we worship and encounter God at the school we expect the presence of God to be with us and for us to grow in intimacy and relationship with him.
- Hearing God and Prophesying - Explore the many ways God has of speaking to us (through his word, prophecy, dreams, angels, trances etc) and receive basic training in prophetic ministry.
- Healing the Sick - Jesus healed the sick and gave his disciples authority to do the same. Expect to grow in faith and confidence as you learn to use that authority and move in greater faith and anointing.
- Discovering your Royal Identity - People do powerful things when they realise they are powerful people. Discover your identity as a royal son or daughter of God and the incredible destiny He has for you.
- Understanding a Culture of Honour - A culture of honour will help us encourage and steward a move of God’s Spirit in our churches. What kind of culture is this and how can we develop it in our relationships with one another?
- Miracles on the Streets - Treasure Hunt Evangelism - Going out on the streets and doing the impossible with God. Treasure Hunt evangelism will equip you to hear God, pray for miracles on the streets and share the good news of the Kingdom. (Treasure Hunts will take place on Saturday mornings at least once a month).
The teaching and ministry will be shared by a varied team from across the country and a range of differing backgrounds, and with various gifts and experience in ministry.
Come prepared for sweet encounters with our Lord, life-changing ministry through the Holy Spirit and times of refreshing in His very presence.
